This dainty place is located near Waterfront Cebu. I got intrigued because of the pastel colors of the shop and the interesting uniforms of their attendants. So, the boyfriend, a close friend and I decided to have a little food trip here while talking about how our lives are going. And no, this doesn't mean Cyan Magenta Yellow Black, but Chocolates Make You Kiss. Definitely interesting.

CMYK serves different desserts that will suit your taste buds. They also have different foods to serve you which make them a good resto/café to stay in. We felt like having desserts that night, so we ordered fube cake (P106), blueberry deconstructed cheesecake (P90), letour (120) choco chip cookie (P45), green tea frapp (P130), strawberry milkshake, (P130), and caramel fudge latte (P130).

Their fube cake is good but not something that I would rave about. The sweetness is just fine and it’s really an ube-flavored cake. Their deconstructed cheesecake, on the other hand, was just so-so. The shape and presentation was definitely interesting and one-of-a-kind. I think it wasn’t that good because the cheesecake wasn’t that chilled as expected. I found the chocolate chip cookie too hard to eat. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that hard that my fork couldn't even break it. I didn't really enjoy it because of that. Letour is definitely my fave for that night. The chocolate-y taste is really yummy.

I was a little disappointed with my strawberry milkshake. It didn’t really taste that milkshake-y to me and it wasn’t that creamy. I did like green tea frapp. It was just how matcha tastes like. It was also sweet and good. Caramel fudge latte is okay. It had a light taste. To me, it was a bit lacking on the caramel flavor. Their drinks are really ample and I think it’s really worth the price. Two people can even share a single drink. It’s that big. I wasn’t able to finish my own milkshake that night.

I think CMYK is a bit on the pricey side. Their servings are a bit small for the price, except their drinks which were definitely huge. However, the place and the fast internet connection work on their side. CMYK is a really good place to bring your friends and chat. They have roomy chairs and comfortable ambiance that makes you want to stay longer.

Poppy Coffee & Cupcakes

It's funny that the boyfriend and I were like tourists during our short trip in Dumaguete City. Although I've been to Dumaguete countless of times, since my folks are currently living in Bayawan City, I've never been really knowledgeable with the streets in Dumaguete. So, when we spotted this little poster on the street that has cupcakes on it, I bugged my friend Nikki to take us there.

Poppy's is a dainty cafe at Silliman University's West Portal. You'll immediately see it before SU's entrance. They had a really nice and comfortable interior, which makes it great for students. A single cupcake at Poppy's costs P35. This is still more affordable compared to the usual cupcakes here in Cebu. Poppy's cupcakes reminded me of SLT's, which is by far my favorite. They have a  number of different cupcakes available and their presentation was similar to that of SLT's.

We chose the blueberry and red velvet, which are our favorite flavors. Their cupcakes are really cute and looked so yummy. Poppy's cupcakes taste really good. However, it wasn't enough to wow me. It tastes good but not as good as the other cupcakes I've tried. Their icing is sweet and is just right. I think it would be best if the cupcakes were served chilled. Nevertheless, I like their cupcakes. It's really good for its price. 

Unfortunately, the thing with Poppy's is that don't have their own toilet. You would have to climb up to West Portal's second floor to pee. It's a bit of hassle, to be honest, but it's better than nothing. Overall, Poppy's is a really interesting and nice cafe. Their staff is friendly and accommodating. I'll try to visit Poppy again next time I'm back in the city. Hopefully not when I'm too full to splurge on some sugar. Maybe, next time. :)

Sans Rival (Main Branch)

I've written a post about Sans Rival, a famous pastry shop in Dumaguete City, last year. However, that was about the Sans Rival branch in Robinsons Place Dumaguete. I've always wanted to visit the Sans Rival main branch and last month, I just did that. I had a short vacation in Negros last month and decided that I shouldn't miss going to Sans Rival main branch, especially when it was the boyfriend's first time in Negros. We went there together with my friend Nikki and her boyfriend, Jano. 

Sans Rival looks like a quaint cafe. It is located near Dumaguete's boulevard. You can ask the tricycle driver to take you to Sans Rival near the boulevard if you don't know the place. What we did was walk down the boulevard strip to find to look for Sans Rival since we don't know it's exact location.

They have pasta and other quick meals for merienda (snacks). If you're bringing some pasalubong for family and friends back home, you can ask their staff for the frozen silvanas which is good for a six-hour travel. You can get a box of silvanas, with 10 pieces, for P110. 

When we got there, we ordered red velvet cake, blueberry cheesecake, spaghetti, burger, and some silvanas. Sans Rival is definitely affordable. I'm sorry I forgot the prices, I forgot where I placed the receipt. Anyway, their cakes are super affordable and cheaper compared to the cakes here in Cebu. My schoolmate even thinks the same way.

Their cakes are good, however, not too good that you'll go crazy for them. They are good for their affordable price. The same thing goes for their burger and their spaghetti. However, their silvanas and Sans Rival butter aren't to be missed. These are my ultimate faves from Sans Rival.

If you're visiting the main branch, be prepared for the long queue of customers. Even when you're there in the morning, there are lots of people there for their coffee or for some pastries. However, this is to be expected since they have a lot of loyal customers.

I also like the homey ambiance of the cafe. The place is just comfortable and perfect for a little chat with friends. We'll definitely be back on our next Negros trip and I hope we can already try the new bistro, as well. :)

Bonjour! at MacaronTango Cafe

What do you do when you're stuck at CDUH due to heavy rains? Head on to Macaron Tango Cafe. You can find this little French cafe at the Centero Arcade along Osmeña Boulevard near Capitol. 

This is an a cafe that boasts its authentic French pastries and dishes ( and is owned by a real French). We even saw him baking some macarons while we ordered (and he smiled at us).

I've heard of the place a way back but never had the chance to try them. I was really glad I thought of dropping by the place while the boyfriend and I were stuck.

So, we got ourselves a slice of blueberry cheesecake (P90), pistachio and berry medley macaron (P40 each) and some hot cup of tea (P40 each). 

Their blueberry cheesecake is definitely heavenly. This is by far the best cheesecake we (the boyfriend and I) have tasted so far. I can tell you that the boyfriend is already in love with the place because of their yummy cheesecake. Even if their cheesecake is a bit pricey, it's definitely worth it. Every bite is so creamy. Did I tell you it's heavenly?

Their macarons were really yummy. You can definitely taste the flavors in your macarons. The berry medley was certainly very berry and the pistachio was nutty. They are just perfect with my hot tea. I actually wanted to try all of their macarons. It was just too hard to choose with their cute colors.

Macaron Tango Cafe can be a great place to study. We noticed there weren't much people inside the cafe, aside from two other customers. You can also do your projects here, as they have fast internet connection. I have a friend in college who made most of her thesis while sitting and eating in the cafe (you know who you are!:P ).

I think the boyfriend and I will be back here soon to have some more of their blueberry cheesecake. I'll also be trying more of their macarons, too. Even if Tango is a bit pricey, they are definitely worth every cent.

The Corner Bakery

The Corner Bakery is a cute bakery in Mabolo. It's not really something that one can pass by on a regular basis since you'd have to do a bit pf walking to get there, unless you have your own ride. It's a small cafe but filled with different pastries and desserts.

The place reminded me of the small stalls in Paris. Their tables and seats also reminded me of Paris cafes. Even if it's not located beside the main road, this little cafe has a steady stream of customers and many patrons. There were many people who dropped by the Corner Bakery while we were there.

We got ourselves a red velvet cupcake, red velvet cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake and green tea chocolate. You'd know by now that I'm in love with anything red velvet. So I'd have to try theirs. Their products are also reasonably priced which is good. They also serve iced service water to drown all that sweetness. Yay to that!

Their red velvet wasn't as yummy as I expected but it was really good. The same goes with their red velvet cheesecake. I can't point it out but there's just something missing. Their blueberry cheesecake was definitely yummy. You can really taste the cheese in every bite. It was really good. I did like their green tea chocolate. It tasted a bit weird but it was definitely yummy. It really is like matcha in your chocolate. It was one of the most interesting chocolates I've ever tasted.

Probably, the only thing I could comment on is their service. They have this one attendant who was not really that accommodating and made me feel like we shouldn't have gone there. However, all that negativity was compensated by the other attendant who cheerfully brought us water. I hope I that negative attendant won't serve us next time.

I would definitely be back to Corner Bakery really soon so I can try their other pastries and desserts. I heard that they serve really good pizza and bolognese as well, so I might try that on my next trip.

Llew's Mudpies Part ii

A series of stressful days brought me and the boyfriend to Llew's Mudpies again. The last time we visited (read here), we failed to try their famous s'mores. We realized we missed half of our lives. So we took the opportunity to taste their s'mores.

Llew's s'mores only cost P25 each. That's for both warm and cold s'mores. It's really affordable and fits a student's budget well. They have different flavors for their cold s'mores, like pistachio, vanilla, and others. Unfortunately, they only had choco mint at that time. So, we contented ourselves to choco mint cold s'mores.

I really like their s'mores, both the hot and the cold one. I really love munching the cold s'mores. It's really yummy and filling. You could also really taste the ice cream flavor in between the graham crackers. It also blends well with the graham cracker. With the hot s'mores, you could really taste the chocolate and marshmallows. It really is yummy! Before, I couldn't really get it why people would look like a mess while eating s'mores. I now get it.

HAHAHAHAHA.

I think their s'mores has gotten into me since I've been thinking of s'mores lately. I've been wanting to make my own. Maybe I just will. ;) I'll definitely be back, Llew's.

Leona's Cupcakes

Who doesn't love Leona's? If you're craving for some sweets and pastries, Leona's got them. It's one of my favorite bakeshops in town.

Leona's red velvet cupcake is something that I, personally, really love. It's my sort of happy food. When I feel like there's a need of getting a shoot of happiness into my system, I grab a cupcake. I would instantly feel great right away. It's perfect for the cold weather along with Sola or some hot milk tea or  hot chocolate.

I've been frequenting Leona's branch at J Centre Mall since it's very convenient. You can also choose to have your cupcake and coffee inside. There aren't much people there so it suits my comfort zone really well. 

Their cupcakes only cost P50. It's affordable and you get yummy cupcakes that will instantly make you feel better. There are other cupcakes like cookies and cream, minty chocolate, and carrot cupcake among others. However, I always stick to my red velvet. I'm a faithful fan. LOL.

Fudge's Dessert Buffet

I have been wanting to drop by Fudge for a really long time. This was all because they had a dessert buffet which I had also wanted to try, well I'm after a cake buffet. I don't know any bakeshop that has this kind of buffet in Cebu(if you do, please comment below). Manila has a couple of cafes that offer unlimited cakes, which I really want to try out soon.

I was pretty much excited when I went to Fudge. It was the supposed "last week" of this once a year dessert buffet. Who wouldn't panic at this state? I could already see myself gobbling down different cakes. When we got to Fudge, there were also other customers who were eating. It was my first time there so I felt awkward. I'm shy. LOL.

So, I picked whatever pieces I thought looked yummy, which were all the cakes. They didn't really post the names on the buffet and I didn't bother to ask for the name of the cakes. I regret doing so for blogging reasons. Moreover, I may have eaten something poisonous without even me knowing it. LOL.

When choosing, I only had to point at the slices that I want. The waiter would do the picking for you. I found this process a bit of a hassle since it made me feel awkward to go back for a second batch. But then, this was how their buffet roll. You can freely go back to ask for more cakes if you want to.

I loved everything that was on my plate. It was sooo sweet and yummy, as expected. I definitely had my share of sugar high. I originally wanted to eat as much cake as I wanted that day, the boyfriend also thought of the same thing. But, a plateful of these sweet goodies made me feel full to the brim already. I was a bit sad that I wasn't able to get more cake than I expected.

I really love the food there. If only I could eat some more, I would have eaten three or more plates. I wanted to get the most out of what I paid for, which was P190. But so much for that. The only comment that I could give is regarding the size of the slices of the cakes. I thought they were too small. The cakes were cut into small squares which made them bite size, which was also good. 

I would definitely visit Fudge soon, even if their dessert buffet is done. I've got my eyes on the Kit Kat cake I saw there. :)

Angelica's Bakeshop

I'm really sorry if I haven't posted for a really long time. For the first two weeks of my absence, I got really sick. I couldn't really eat anything, literally. The following weeks brought in more busy weeks for work and school, especially finals is fast approaching. I hope you guys can forgive the absence, but I will definitely strive to post as often as I can from this day on. 

Anyhow, since I haven't really eaten sweet for the last few weeks so I decided to get a cake just so I could "celebrate" the start of my sweet-eating days. I can already feel the UP hell week coming closer, so this is the time of binging for me. I was in a budget so I decided to get a cheap yummy cake. And, I decided to go to Angelica's.

A box of happiness! 

Angelica's Bakeshop has been around for a long time. My father is a loyal customer. It's one of those few local bakeshops that I think could compete well with Red Ribbon and Goldilocks even without the ads. They have a number of branches in Cebu, but I personally know just their branch in Jones Avenue and in Gaisano Grandmall in Lapu-Lapu City. 

My favorite cake in Angelica's is their Choco Moist. This is definitely a great buy for a great price. A round cake that is approximately eight inches in diameter costs P145. That's even enough for 5-6 persons. It's definitely worth your money.

Untouched cake.

The cake is just simple. It's a no-bullshit cake, if I were to say. There's nothing much going on. It's covered with chocolate frosting. It is soft and fresh that makes you want to gobble even more. I really prefer moist cakes. There are times when homebakers make their cupcakes too dry. I like the sweetness and the tenderness of the cake. It has the right sweetness and softness. It's not really that cakey, which I love.

It's definitely something that one should go for when in a tight budget. You're not even sacrificing the taste for the price. The cake is perfect for those lazy afternoons at home with friends. You can just grab your favorite instant coffee and you now have a home cafe. You can also get this as a birthday cake. You can ask them to write a greeting on the cake as well.

Cafe Maru (Part I: Fail)

I fist passed the new coffee shop a few months ago and I was already dying to drop by. Who couldn't resist a Cafe Maru coffee shop. It sounds so foreign. I really didn't have an idea what it was until last week when I already decided to drop by. I searched for the cafe and found a blog. That was the time I knew it was a Korean cafe.

I went there along with the boyfriend. We asked a close friend to come with us but he was hesitant. Good thing was, he changed his mind and came. He also tagged along another friend which was happier.

The place was cool and overwhelming. It was filled with little knickknacks on the walls and on the shelves. It had a really cute design. I must commend whoever designed the interiors of the place. It was all cuteness! No wonder why most of the people who are in the cafe were girls.

There were usual tables on the cafe, but what we tried were those little tables made for squatting. Of course, we have to take our shoes off. It was a fun experience. There were puzzles and board games available for bored guests like us. We decided to take  the scrabble to test our knowledge for words. This was probably the best scrabble game I've ever had. It was really fun. It's funny how words also came due to desperation. (See above photo)

The boyfriend got himself a cold choco mocha. It tasted good and was served in a cute glass with adorable stirrer. My "choi" friend, Jay, ordered white mocha. He said it was okay. It was also served with the same cute stirrer and glass.

Another friend, Chardey, ordered this certain drink which I failed to ask about. Sorry! It was a really cool drink with an exquisitely tall glass. It looked like a pitcher. It was so interesting.

Cafe Maru is a really great place to hang out in especially when you just want a good ambiance. Although the place is filled with lots of cute stuff, it's relatively pricey. The drinks cost as much as Starbucks. But in my opinion, It's not as satisfying as Starbucks. Undoubtedly, they have good drinks but it doesn't seem to justify the price. I think the customers are paying for the place. I was also disappointed that they had this policy of not allowing anyone to come to the cafe without that person buying anything. A friend of ours came over and he didn't buy anything, the barista asked if he was only staying for a while and I said yes. So you can't really group study here when not all of you will buy drinks.

So, that's it. That's what I have to say about Cafe Maru. I'll be back though next week with some friends who want to try out the place. I promise to take more pictures so I can give you an idea how the place looks like. I'd also note the prices next week so you know why I think it's pricey. Maybe, I'm just being too frugal.
