OT: Pizzeria Michaelangelo

Pin It Now!
The first time I went to Pizzeria Michaelangelo was work related. I had to interview the general manager, Chef Massimo la Magna, for their ad. He offered us some dishes and they were really heavenly. We tried their pasta and pizza and they were both so flavorful. I then vowed to go back again and try their yummy pasta.

So, I through of bringing the boyfriend with me to the restaurant next time. He's also a fan of pasta and I figured it would be a nice date.

When we got there, the place was empty. I guess we were too early for dinner. The staff attended to our needs right away. They were really nice and courteous. The ambiance was comfortable and cozy, as usual. I was glad that the boyfriend found the place charming. He's not really the type of person who's comfortable with posh places. So, I was really happy he liked the place.

Alla Contadina

Boscaiola

We ordered Alla Contadina (P250), Boscaiola (P290), pistachio gelato (P85), vanilla gelato (P85), and some Sola. I tried the Alla Contadina when I interviewed Chef Massimo. I really loved it. So, I wanted to try it again. The sauce is made to perfection. The tomato sauce and the herbs complement each other. There's a strong "herb" kind of flavor with every bite. But, it's just sooo good. The boyfriend's Boscaiola is really sumptuous. The white sauce was just creamy and yummy. The boyfriend definitely loved and enjoyed his food.

I looove their gelato. It was delicious. Although the serving is a bit smaller than Gelatissimo's, it was definitely enjoyable.Vanilla tasted just how it should be. It was creamy and had some bits of chocolate that made it even more good on the taste buds.  My pistachio was just heavenly. I love pistachio and it was the best way to finish our sumptuous dinner.

I would definitely go back to Michaelangelo, if I have the time. The food and service is really worth that short walk from the jeepney stop. It really is the best Italian restaurant in Cebu. Thanks to Chef Massimo for taking care of us and for the complimentary drinks, as well. :)

Sugar High at CMYK

Pin It Now!
This dainty place is located near Waterfront Cebu. I got intrigued because of the pastel colors of the shop and the interesting uniforms of their attendants. So, the boyfriend, a close friend and I decided to have a little food trip here while talking about how our lives are going. And no, this doesn't mean Cyan Magenta Yellow Black, but Chocolates Make You Kiss. Definitely interesting.

CMYK serves different desserts that will suit your taste buds. They also have different foods to serve you which make them a good resto/café to stay in. We felt like having desserts that night, so we ordered fube cake (P106), blueberry deconstructed cheesecake (P90), letour (120) choco chip cookie (P45), green tea frapp (P130), strawberry milkshake, (P130), and caramel fudge latte (P130).

deconstructed cheesecake

fube cake

Their fube cake is good but not something that I would rave about. The sweetness is just fine and it’s really an ube-flavored cake. Their deconstructed cheesecake, on the other hand, was just so-so. The shape and presentation was definitely interesting and one-of-a-kind. I think it wasn’t that good because the cheesecake wasn’t that chilled as expected. I found the chocolate chip cookie too hard to eat. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that hard that my fork couldn't even break it. I didn't really enjoy it because of that. Letour is definitely my fave for that night. The chocolate-y taste is really yummy.

letour

matcha frapp

chocolate chip cookie

I was a little disappointed with my strawberry milkshake. It didn’t really taste that milkshake-y to me and it wasn’t that creamy. I did like green tea frapp. It was just how matcha tastes like. It was also sweet and good. Caramel fudge latte is okay. It had a light taste. To me, it was a bit lacking on the caramel flavor. Their drinks are really ample and I think it’s really worth the price. Two people can even share a single drink. It’s that big. I wasn’t able to finish my own milkshake that night.

I think CMYK is a bit on the pricey side. Their servings are a bit small for the price, except their drinks which were definitely huge. However, the place and the fast internet connection work on their side. CMYK is a really good place to bring your friends and chat. They have roomy chairs and comfortable ambiance that makes you want to stay longer.

OT: A Thanksgiving for MLhuillier Food Products

Pin It Now!
I had the privilege to be invited to the thanksgiving dinner of MLhuillier Food Products, Inc at Pino Restaurant last Friday. Thanks to Dr. Nestor Alonso and Patty Taboada. I also met Michel and Amparito Lhuillier who were very kind and sweet. I felt a bit awkward myself shaking hands to such famous and big people in the country. They were so good-natured (and good looking, too) that you can't help but like them.

If you've been reading my blog for a long time, you'd know that I'm not really a fan of events. I'm too shy, even if I don't look like it. However, I was really glad that I went to the thanksgiving dinner because I met Justinne of Babe for Food in person for the first time. Yay! Not only was I relieved, I was also happy to have found someone to talk to.

MLhuillier Food Products, Inc produces and exports dried tropical fruits. They've been around since 1989 and only recently been certified by TUV SUD for GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and HACCP (). This makes the company a globally-accredited business that makes them competitive worldwide. They are already exporting to 11 countries and are still trying to penetrate new markets. Señorito Michel was really happy to share the story of the company to the guests and of his own life story, too. He mentioned that they were all hardworking. It's really nice to hear stories of successful local companies and businesses because they not only bring money to the country; they also create more jobs for Filipinos.

There was an after party at Labeled near Capitol and the guests were invited to join. However, I wasn't able to go thanks to my curfew. My aunt was already looking for me at 10:30PM so it was a signal that I had to head home pronto.

What made me really happy were their products. They handed out samples of the products to us, media people, before we went out. Yay for free food! Honestly, I was really excited to try out their dried fruits, being a dried-mango fanatic myself. In the stash were dried mangoes, coconut, pineapple, papaya, mango-tamarind candies, and mango nectar juice.

I gave away some of the stash to the boyfriend and another friend, whom I met up a nearby restaurant. We ate the dried mango while waiting for their bill. We found it really good. The mangoes aren't too sweet. They were just the right taste. I really love it. I finished a pack on my own while snacking at home. Even my brother and aunt enjoyed the dried fruits that I brought home. My brother loved their dried pineapple. Another favorite, aside from dried mangoes, is the mango-tamarind candy. It's definitely good. I never imagined the two to compliment each other's distinct flavor.

MLhuillier's products are available in different grocery stores in Cebu, like Rustan's. Robinson's. Gaisano Grand, Fooda, and other pasalubong centers in Mactan and Cebu. Price range for these yummy treats range from P10 to 100.

Bonjour! at MacaronTango Cafe

Pin It Now!
What do you do when you're stuck at CDUH due to heavy rains? Head on to Macaron Tango Cafe. You can find this little French cafe at the Centero Arcade along Osmeña Boulevard near Capitol.

This is an a cafe that boasts its authentic French pastries and dishes ( and is owned by a real French). We even saw him baking some macarons while we ordered (and he smiled at us).

I've heard of the place a way back but never had the chance to try them. I was really glad I thought of dropping by the place while the boyfriend and I were stuck.

yummiest blueberry evar! ♥

pistachio and berry medley

So, we got ourselves a slice of blueberry cheesecake (P90), pistachio and berry medley macaron (P40 each) and some hot cup of tea (P40 each).

Their blueberry cheesecake is definitely heavenly. This is by far the best cheesecake we (the boyfriend and I) have tasted so far. I can tell you that the boyfriend is already in love with the place because of their yummy cheesecake. Even if their cheesecake is a bit pricey, it's definitely worth it. Every bite is so creamy. Did I tell you it's heavenly?

Their macarons were really yummy. You can definitely taste the flavors in your macarons. The berry medley was certainly very berry and the pistachio was nutty. They are just perfect with my hot tea. I actually wanted to try all of their macarons. It was just too hard to choose with their cute colors.

Macaron Tango Cafe can be a great place to study. We noticed there weren't much people inside the cafe, aside from two other customers. You can also do your projects here, as they have fast internet connection. I have a friend in college who made most of her thesis while sitting and eating in the cafe (you know who you are!:P ).

I think the boyfriend and I will be back here soon to have some more of their blueberry cheesecake. I'll also be trying more of their macarons, too. Even if Tango is a bit pricey, they are definitely worth every cent.

Phoebe's Cupcakery

Pin It Now!
I wouldn't miss a new cupcake store for anything. Well, except when something comes up. But when I heard that Phoebe's Cupcakery will be opening real soon, I could't resist. Who can with all those floral-colored walls paired with yummy cupcakes?

So, I dragged along the boyfriend for some yummy cupcakes at Phoebe's. I really have no idea where their store was except it was located in Maria Luisa Road. We had to do some walking to look for the store. It was quite an adventure. Then we saw the purple cupcake store and knew we're at the right place.

I must say that Phoebe's Cupcakery was like made out of a dollhouse. They have quirky floral teacups on the wall. They also have floral wallpaper and seats. The store has a purple theme with purple chandeliers and  flowers all over. I felt like I was in a dollhouse, or better yet in a Victorian parlor.

When we got in, there were already customers inside. It was quite obvious that they were enjoying their cupcakes. So, we ordered for ours. We got scarlette (red velvet!), cookie monster and.choco hazelnut We got Sola for our drinks.

the sharing plate. :)

our cupcakes and drinks for that afternoon.

All of Phoebe's cupcakes were definitely yummy! My favorite was the choco hazelnut. It was just the right sweetness for me. The cupcakes were soft and the icing have the right sweetness. They were so perfect. I left Phoebe's with happy taste buds and a filled stomach.

I can't wait to go back to Phoebe's really soon to try more of their cupcakes.

The Corner Bakery

Pin It Now!
The Corner Bakery is a cute bakery in Mabolo. It's not really something that one can pass by on a regular basis since you'd have to do a bit pf walking to get there, unless you have your own ride. It's a small cafe but filled with different pastries and desserts.

The place reminded me of the small stalls in Paris. Their tables and seats also reminded me of Paris cafes. Even if it's not located beside the main road, this little cafe has a steady stream of customers and many patrons. There were many people who dropped by the Corner Bakery while we were there.

We got ourselves a red velvet cupcake, red velvet cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake and green tea chocolate. You'd know by now that I'm in love with anything red velvet. So I'd have to try theirs. Their products are also reasonably priced which is good. They also serve iced service water to drown all that sweetness. Yay to that!

(out-of-focus) blueberry cheesecake

red velvet cheesecake

Their red velvet wasn't as yummy as I expected but it was really good. The same goes with their red velvet cheesecake. I can't point it out but there's just something missing. Their blueberry cheesecake was definitely yummy. You can really taste the cheese in every bite. It was really good. I did like their green tea chocolate. It tasted a bit weird but it was definitely yummy. It really is like matcha in your chocolate. It was one of the most interesting chocolates I've ever tasted.

Probably, the only thing I could comment on is their service. They have this one attendant who was not really that accommodating and made me feel like we shouldn't have gone there. However, all that negativity was compensated by the other attendant who cheerfully brought us water. I hope I that negative attendant won't serve us next time.

I would definitely be back to Corner Bakery really soon so I can try their other pastries and desserts. I heard that they serve really good pizza and bolognese as well, so I might try that on my next trip.

PS. The red velvet photo is missing because it was awfully shot. Sorry, my digicam died on me. :(

Llew's Mudpies Part ii

Pin It Now!
A series of stressful days brought me and the boyfriend to Llew's Mudpies again. The last time we visited (read here), we failed to try their famous s'mores. We realized we missed half of our lives. So we took the opportunity to taste their s'mores.

Llew's s'mores only cost P25 each. That's for both warm and cold s'mores. It's really affordable and fits a student's budget well. They have different flavors for their cold s'mores, like pistachio, vanilla, and others. Unfortunately, they only had choco mint at that time. So, we contented ourselves to choco mint cold s'mores.

forzen choco mint s'mores

hot s'mores. (sorry it's out of focus.)

I really like their s'mores, both the hot and the cold one. I really love munching the cold s'mores. It's really yummy and filling. You could also really taste the ice cream flavor in between the graham crackers. It also blends well with the graham cracker. With the hot s'mores, you could really taste the chocolate and marshmallows. It really is yummy! Before, I couldn't really get it why people would look like a mess while eating s'mores. I now get it.

HAHAHAHAHA.

I think their s'mores has gotten into me since I've been thinking of s'mores lately. I've been wanting to make my own. Maybe I just will. ;) I'll definitely be back, Llew's.

Mochiko

Pin It Now!
There's an interesting new snack spot in Ayala that you guys should try out.

Mochiko sells mochi ice creams whi are Japanese treats. These are usually made out of mochi, chewy glutinous rice cake with powdered sugar, and ice cream. They are usually made in pastel colors.

The colors of their mochi are to die for. Sorry, but they are just so cute. It was a bit difficult to pick which one I would be getting for myself. So, I asked for their bestsellers and opted for the cookies and cream. The boyfriend, a lover of everything in the shade of green, got the green tea one. Each one costs P70.

The easiest way to describe mochi ice creams to Cebuanos is that it's very similar to our own local masi. The masi is also made of glutinous rice, but with sweetened peanuts. With mochi ice cream, you get a whole scoop of ice cream at the center.

our snacks for the day
My cookies and cream mochi ice cream was really good. No wonder it's a bestseller. The texture of the cookie inside and the sweet ice cream blends well with the sweet mochi. It was really good and yummy. The green tea was also good. However, the mochi somehow overpowers the taste of the green tea ice cream which robs it a bit of its real flavor. Nevertheless, it was still yummy.

I really like Mochiko's mochi ice cream. They are unique and yummy. Being a tad bit pricey for a snack is my only concern. It's not really that filling of a snack. But if you don't mind spending a bit for a yummy treat, then go ahead. You'll love the pretty colors!

PIIINK!

If you want to drop by, you can find them beside Tablea at Ayala's Active Zone.
